I’ve Been Driving Around Town

I read my drunken post from last night and it wasn’t as painful as I thought it might be. Only a few too many exclamation points and a few typos!

Tonight I’m lounging on the couch with Lucky 10-Key. No drinks for us. In our advanced age we can’t seem to recover as quickly as we used to. Right now we’re watching the Pride & Prejudice mini-series. I’m trying to restrain myself from saying all the lines, as Lucky 10-Key is watching it for the first time. Before turning on the movie we were perusing Match.com. Half-jokingly I suggested that Lucky 10-Key consider Jane Austen’s thoughts on dating—for, “a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.”

We spent the day eating wonderful food, taking pictures, and driving in circles.

Here is a mini photo tour of Girl Friday’s adventures with Lucky 10-Key:

Let’s Get Lost

A review of an awesome day:

Girl Friday is a happy camper! I’m having so much fun with Lucky 10-Key! It’s just like when we were kids and we used to do silly things—like make breakfast even though we didn’t know how to cook and watch 90210 even though we were too young to understand it.

We woke up and drank lots of coff-ay and then got ready to see The Misses. We drove to her phat pad and then went to lunch. We indulged in milkshakes and sandwiches. Yum-O! Then we gave The Misses a tour of our alma mater. We took some pics and girl…we have grown up! We’ve come such a long way since the Jog-a-Thon and the monkey bars.

After we dropped off The Misses, we got lost in the American Riviera. Windy roads and views of the city are awesome. If I weren’t so um…tipsy, I’d try to upload photos. We got so lost! We actually found the end of the road. Lucky 10-Key captured the moment and I’ll try to upload the evidence as soon as possible. After our drive we went to the rose garden. I took more pictures and we smelled all the pretty flowers! We headed to dinner next and the gods mocked me just a little. I was eating my taco, minding my own business, when I looked up and there was a clear view of a bridal shop. Knock it off! I’ll get married when I want to!

After dinner we went to Trader Joe’s and bought way too many chocolate products! We came home and invented our signature weekend drink—The Pom Pom. It consists of pomegranate juice and vodka. For taste and style, put a berry medley at the bottom of a martini glass and serve with a twist of lime!

I’m just a hair shy of drunk and you have no idea how hard this is to write! Anyway, we’re having a great time…wish you were all here!

No Such Details Will Spoil My Plan

Just a quick hello for tonight!  Lucky 10-Key is tucked in bed and I’m still on a pilot high.  Well, none of my favorites actually flew, but my favorite Bad Ass Gal Pal rocked it.

Here’s a recipe for a fabulous weekend you can sample with your very own gal pal:
  1. Don’t plan.  Plans cramp my style sometimes.  Have a loose idea of what you want to do, but be flexible.  You never know when it’s going to rain, and when you leave the day to chance the day will take you to amazing places.
  2. Eat right.  Let your stomach set the itinerary.  Lucky 10-Key has asked to go to two of her favorite spots.  Avoid chains.  Go to local establishments with a bit of history and flair.  Have your favorite snacks and drinks on hand.  When considering Peanut M&Ms versus Almond M&Ms—buy both.
  3. Take a breather.  You don’t have to leave the comfort of your own couch to have a good time.  Watch your favorite movies, catch up on TV, gossip, make cocktails and reminisce.  Enjoy your friend’s company while you can!
  4. Make it personal.  Do things that are unique and special to the two of you as friends.  Lucky 10-Key and I are going to hit up So Good Jewelry.  It’s one of our stomping grounds in Soho, but now there’s one here.  She’s insisting that I confiscate her credit card.  What are friends for?
  5. Serve over ice.  Pop some bubbly or mix something potent and serve it with a twist.  Nothing goes better with two old friends than a martini.  Don’t forget the cocktail napkins!
