Celebrate Your Girl or Boy Friday

Since I’m like the crappiest girl Friday, I totally forgot today was Administrative Professionals’ Day.  Thankfully the wonderfully together Notorious M.A.G. reminded me.

In honor of admin superheroes, here is my list of awesome girl and boy Friday characters:

Anne Elliot of Jane Austen’s Persuasion:  She was always being sent here and there on stupid little errands even though she was running the show.  Idiots!

Fanny Price of Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park:  Mrs. Norris so didn’t need a girl Friday, but she sure liked having one.  That’s the way all boss-type people are.

Cordelia Chase of Angel:  Etilia disagrees and thinks that Cordy would kick my ass, but it’s my list damn it!  To me, girl Friday just means you’re not top dog, you’re a second banana.  And I agree that Cordy would have a hard time admitting this, but that’s just because all girl Fridays are made of awesome and that’s part of the humor in the term.

Michel Gerard of Gilmore Girls:  He always gets the job done and works with demanding personalities like Lorelai and Sookie.  He feigns annoyance, I mean, he is annoyed by incompetence like every good boy Friday.

The whole admin staff on Ugly Betty–Betty, Amanda, & Mark:  When their bosses say JUMP, they ask HOW HIGH?  Betty pays homage to all the Fridays that came before her in tweed, with limp bows, and tragic cardigans good only for keeping you warm in a chilly office.  Mark is ruthless in serving his boss.  Amanda owns her headset like it’s the cutest little accessory.   I wish I got to paw through The Closet during late nights in the office.

Dwight on The Office:  Granted he’s a sales rep and Pam is technically the admin staff, but seriously, he is so Michael’s boy Friday.

Please add to the list!!!!!!!!!  I know there are many more great admin superheroes!

And finally, Happy Administrative Professionals’ Day to me, Notorious M.A.G., Weltsie, and Violet the Bohemian!!!!!

How about girl Friday Andy Sachs from the bestselling book, “The Devil Wears Prada”? Now THERE’S some impressive Friday-ing!

I too forgot (not sure I really knew to begin with) it was Administrative Professionals’ Day. Happy day, Girl Friday. Without your wit my days would be much duller!
