Girl Friday Takes a Meeting, Part II

Apparently Girl Friday’s cheap tricks were enough! Days later she was contacted and asked back for a second interview. The holidays prolonged her anticipation, although the looming interview did serve as a good sound byte for her nosy relatives that asked her what she was doing by way of employment.

Girl Friday put on the requisite office gal outfit this morning, one that screams competence and wholesome values. She arrived on time and was escorted to an executive office where two professional women waited. She sat at the oblong table and saw a plastic cupful of water (news of her dry mouth syndrome had obviously spread). Girl Friday answered every question thoughtfully, treading lightly on her large vocabulary, thereby avoiding a session of tongue-tied embarrassment. Before she knew it, she was mired in quicksand. “Have you ever been involved in an office conflict?” Who hasn’t, and furthermore, who enjoys reliving it? Girl Friday’s heart beat like a bass drum. She jumped into the sticky topic hoping to remain suave and unscathed. She groped for words, her voice wavered, and she floundered. It was not Girl Friday’s finest moment. Equipped with saving face, Girl Friday recovered and tried to show them how personality is more endearing than perfection.

Thirty minutes passed by and Girl Friday stood up to go, confident that she’d done her best. No doubt this office needs a stellar administrative vixen, but is it ready for Girl Friday?

Girl Friday Takes a Meeting, Part I

After being out of the office arena for some time now, Girl Friday made a cameo recently. Girl Friday interviewed at a property management office for a job towards the bottom of the food chain. While Girl Friday is not fond of minion-status, she is excited about the prospect of a generous fringe benefits package and vacation time!

Upon entering the complex Girl Friday became immediately disoriented. She encountered a friendly Australian surfer who pointed her in the right direction (talk about those fringe benefits!). After arriving in the reception area Girl Friday was whisked away into a private office and instructed to sit at the large desk (as if she was the boss!). She felt uncomfortable and wondered what kind of role-playing game her interviewers had up their sleeves. Two young men and a kindly woman sat across from her. The quiet and inscrutable one offered her a paper cup of water, which she took small sips from to combat her cottonmouth nervousness. The other young man looked unassuming and very cosmopolitan in his YSL tie. Girl Friday inwardly applauded his fashion sense and wondered how soon was too soon to ask if she could borrow any of his other haute couture pieces. After reveling for a moment the interview commenced. Girl Friday was thrown off by the group setting but worked her charm and feminine wiles the best she could. Twenty questions later Girl Friday’s interviewers ascertained that she has a big mouth (the better to put her foot in), is commitment-phobic, but a good bet in the end.

Would her cheap tricks be enough to garner a second interview?

Girl Friday Keeps it Short and Sweet

Girl Friday is a tired gal. She’s been on her bestest behavior these past couple of days in the presence of The BF’s family. Her time as a temp prepared her well…she’s patient, sweet, and um…a witty conversationalist? Tomorrow, Girl Friday is hitting the Big City. It may sound fun and exciting but she’s only going to visit her man friend’s grandmother. At some point after the requisite family dinner, the duo will be going to Girl Friday’s family’s house. On the way she plans to finish shopping for her brother, Drummer Boy. Alizé Passion Fruit is on her list! Oh how he enjoys a good Thug Passion. Who knew that Tupac would go down in history as a mixology genius with equal parts Alizé with Hennessey?

Girl Friday hopes you’re all having a sparkly holiday season!
