Latte Lady aka Superheroine of Job Hunting

Girl Friday met Latte Lady one year ago. They worked side by side for two months. For a temp that is equivalent to 44 days or 352 hours or 4 paychecks. The Gal Pals put together tedious packets, answered inane questions, and huddled outside the break room seeking leftovers from birthday parties, holiday potlucks, and TGIFs (they weren’t always welcomed guests, so they took what they could get).

Though the pair parted ways when the job was done, they have remained good friends. Girl Friday is amazed by Latte Lady’s coffee consumption. She has the rare gift to drink tub-sized lattes and still stay in control of all her faculties. Her commitment to finishing off the four-dollar drink is second to none! Piping hot or icy cold (not due to ice, but caused by hours of sitting in a paper cup), Latte Lady will take it any way she can get it. Perhaps it is the intense caffeine high that helps Latte Lady remain composed in the face of career adversity? Latte Lady has been on The Hunt for the Perfect Job ever since she met Girl Friday. Latte Lady has fought the elements in our fair city (sun, surf, and summer fog) in search of proper employment, always with her trusty Liquid Courage. Her greatest tools have been her Magic Espresso Beans and her Milk Frothing Wand.

Watch out for Latte Lady! She is perky, alert, and interviewing at an office near you!

The Pink Fairy aka Superheroine of Efficiency and Flair

Girl Friday and The Pink Fairy met in high school. They had a mutual love of passing notes and The New Rock Alternative. Their relationship has stood the test of experimental fashion (glitter nail polish and wide leg jeans) and great distances (first the Pacific, now the sprawling Southwest). In the beginning they kept infrequent, at best periodic, contact via Hello Kitty or Barbie stationary. They never did get in the habit of emailing one another… Now the Gal Pals talk every Thursday, like clockwork, using a magical communication device called The Phone.

The Pink Fairy was always a crafty girl, both in scheming and in handmade goods; but since reestablishing routine contact, Girl Friday has discovered The Pink Fairy’s true superpower. The Pink Fairy has magical hands! She can finish 75 quarterly reports before lunch, and then lend her lazy coworkers a hand in the afternoon. In her spare time she can whip up a whimsical ensemble for a night on the town, or even a wedding gown if it suits your fancy. The Pink Fairy channels the Aura of Pink to brighten up every situation. Leave it to the Superheroine of Efficiency and Flair to multi-task, prioritize, create masterpieces, and add a little something extra wherever she goes.

Take a lesson from The Pink Fairy: “THINK PINK!”

Try it! I swear it works. Having a less than fab day? Dab some pink on your cheeks! You may not think it will make a difference, but looking your personal best is the way of The Gal Pals!

English Diva aka Superheroine of Making a Difference

Girl Friday and English Diva have been friends since that awkward time called Junior High. The Gal Pals have grown up since then, transitioning seamlessly into twenty-something adulthood. They live in separate regions but are connected through the Power of Gossip. It is a strong force, a calling for some, and a natural gift for Girl Friday and English Diva. Recently Girl Friday recounted in detail (including accents) her meeting with her temp agency. English Diva wondered aloud why Girl Friday resisted long term assignments in favor of nomadic employment. Girl Friday craves change from the daily grind of idiocy and mediocrity, that’s why!!!

It may be hard for English Diva and other Gal Pals to understand, since their Superheroine duties have a bit more sense of urgency. English Diva is a great example of the kind of important posts that Superheroines take on. English Diva is the Superheroine of Making a Difference. She single-handedly teaches teenagers the great significance of literature, grammar, and punctuation. In addition to such a great responsibility comes the opportunity to boast to jerks that once scorned her. “What do you do?” English Diva inquires demurely when she bumps into exes. “You got married/found God/finance home loans?” She repeats, before she zings them with, “Well, I MAKE A DIFFERENCE!”

Girl Friday is highly jealous that (as of yet) she cannot command such respect! Girl Friday, while being honored to be a Superheroine at all, prefers to play coy rather than admit she is just a link in the chain of paper shuffling…
